It’s up to YOU!
July 29, 2008
This year we are asking for you, our audience’s help! What do you want to see on the stage at Franklin County High School this year? Our Spring Musical always attracts large audiences from across Northeast Georgia, and like last year across the country. Do you have a suggestion? If we use your suggestion for our 2009 Spring Musical, you will receive 4 complimentary tickets to the premiere show! Why are you still reading this? It’s 4 free tickets just for making a suggestion and letting us pick it! To submit yours email us at info@thespotlightplayers.org or just comment this blog! Thanks for reading and thanks for your suggestions. Please note we will only give the complimentary tickets to the first person that recommends the production that is chosen.

Summer Officer Meeting
July 23, 2008
In just one hour the officer team discussed many topics including Georgia Theatre Conference, Georgia Thespian Festival, Miss Echo Pageant, 2008-2009 Season of Plays, and much, much more! I’ll cover as much as I can for now, but will probably be typing more things as the week continues. Chloe Payne, our former Community Affairs officer is now the Media Relations Specialist. Chloe will be forming a committe that will assist her with publicity, ticketing, public relations and anything involving our influence on the community. Now, Miss Echo Pageant 2008 will be on December 6th with a Winter Wonderland theme! We are all really excited to have this new twist on the classic tradition and will be creating a real night to remember. Registration and more information will all be available online at www.thespotlightplayers.org hopefully around September.
Georgia Theatre Conference was discussed and only the first 40 people that sign-up will be allowed to attend the conference October 15-18 in Albany! Plans are being made to have the sign-up online for equal opportunity to sign-up. Our 2008-2009 Season of Plays will probably be one of the best in years, plans are for a one act in the Fall and a possible Christmas play in December. A play, comedy or drama, will be in the Spring along with the musical. No plays have been announced at this time. Drama Club dues will increase to $15 next year after a vote with the officers. All meetings will serve a breakfast item and drink. Many more things were discussed and I’ll be covering them all soon! We’ll see you at Open House for Franklin County High School on August 4th from 10:00am until 6:00pm.

Happy Birthday!
July 9, 2008
Guess who’s finally 17? Me! WordPress has been reporting some stats to me about the blog and in the few weeks that the blog has been up, it has already had over 200 hits! So, what’s new? The Jungle Book Kids, presented by the Franklin Community Players’ Drama Camp will be onstage at The Telford Center on July 18th at 6:30pm. My team and I began work on the lighting Monday afternoon. We will finally be using intelligent lighting, gobos and fog for a stage production at The Telford Center! We are extremely excited to bring new technology and standards to the lighting department. This combination will prove to create a new world of lighting and environment on the stage. All items that were borrowed for the Land of Spirit Summer Season have been collected and returned. All items were handled with great care and no damages were made. One of the producers, Genny Cole, was on-hand for the return. She thanked us for the use and take-down of the items and talked of the Fall Season of Land of Spirit which the entire team will be returning to work for.
I have started speaking to some officers on fundraisers, conference activities and Miss Echo and from what I continue to hear, we will be planning an exciting year for the department. The full meeting with the entire officer team and the new theatre director, Charity Moon-Henry is July 18th at 11:00am. I will write about that day (in all that I can discuss that was finalized) hopefully that night or on Saturday, depending on how tired I am from The Jungle Book. Lights, meetings and more are in store for next week… this week is party time! I’ll write to you all soon.

Wisdom Teeth
July 1, 2008
Today at about 11:00am I had my wisdom teeth cut out, all four of them I might add. I have absolutely no idea what happened between about 10:50am and 3:30pm. My mouth isn’t as swollen as poor J.D. was this year but it’s very sensitive to the touch. The most difficult thing of the entire experience has been not eating what I want! Those who know me best know I love to eat… I have had nothing solid in 24 hours! Jello, pudding and milkshakes are my life right now, and they’re all chocolate… yum! Tomorrow I can step up to actual food, but it still must be “soft”. Is chicken soft? How about shrimp? I’ll be getting some GTC information over the next two weeks and I’ll pass that information along to you on the blog!

Land of Spirit Summer Season
June 30, 2008
As many of you know, Land of Spirit: The Last Hard Times has been playing at the Lavonia Cultural Center every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in June. I was lighting technician, Ashley McGee was sound engineer, and Jordan Ford was spotlight. Jack McRee, Malone Thomasonand Lacey McGee helped with our fogging system there also. The show had a standing ovation for every performance. The cast of around 70 or so was brilliant every time it came time for a show. The music and vocals were incredible! This show certainly brought a new standard to Franklin County performing arts.
The Franklin County High School Performing Arts Department have created a partnership with Land of Spirit. When we are not in season they may borrow our items for no charge. In return, when they are not in season we may do the same. It’s a great partnership and hopefully it will continue for many years as both programs grow, this will help both supplying new demands in the technical theatre world.
The staff was incredible! Genny Cole and Judy Hulsey were the producers. Both were so caring and compassionate about every aspect of the play. At the end of the run of the show Genny came up to me and said, “Now what do we need in the fall”, I asked her what she meant, she replied with “you get me a list together of what all we need. Get me a wish list and a mandatory list.” I love working with someone that has this kind of attitude toward the theatre! She really cared for everyone from cast to parking attendants and showed that every role was vital for the performance. Thank you Genny for allowing my staff to come in and help your performance and truly feel at home in the theatre.
Land of Spirit: The Last Hard Times will return in October and November 2008 to the Lavonia Cultural Center. It will play the last two Thursday, Friday and Saturdays in October and the first two in November. This is the last time the show will appear on the stage. If you haven’t seen it I would advise you not to miss this show! Technical takedown will be Monday, July 7th at 10:00am. I’ll blog about that at the end of the day… I’m sure it will be a long one.
